Pink Ladies
Many thanks to all who very
generously sponsored the pink ladies in
the
Race for Life. Without your help we could not have made the
fantastic total of
£868
for Cancer Research. Karen, Barbara, Carol, S Sharon, Helen, Margaret, Edna,

Pink Ladies
Dressed in stunning pink tinsel wigs
our team of 9 pink ladies put in a perfect performance! The heavy downpour
subsided shortly before the start of the event and only resumed after we’d
finished. Someone was looking down on us! In spite of a rather muddy and
slippery course we had good fun and good exercise. Sponsorship is being
gathered in and we will announce the total amount as soon as we know it. With
thanks to all who sponsored us – family, work colleagues, neighbours and
friends at St John’s, St Philips, St George’s ,St Michael’s, St Peter’s Leigh
and St Agnes’ Longsight.
Update of the EASTER EXPERIENCE.
During the week in which the school children took part in the
Easter experience they added to the displays. In each section they were asked to
listen to some short readings and then perform small actions or activities.
At the palm Sunday HOPES and DREAMS they were asked to draw
or write on cut out shapes of pebbles to express their hopes for the future.
At the "Servant King" section the children listened to the story of Jesus
washing the disciples feet and were then asked if they would dip their fingers
in the water and draw a cross in the palm of their hand.
At "The Last Supper" the table was set for the meal with the
disciples before the arrest of Jesus and where Jesus explained the bread and
wine were in remembrance of him. They then passed around a piece of bread which
they broke and ate a piece of to remember Jesus.
At the "Garden of Gethsemane" the story of Jesus, with his
disciples, going into the garden to pray and then being left "alone" because the
disciples fell asleep was told to show the children that Jesus could feel alone
just like they may feel sometimes. They were asked to make a shape which
reminded themselves of a time of feeling alone and place it on the garden. This
brought out a lot of feelings which some of the children shared with us and, as
can be seen, many and varied events were represented. Lots of pictures are
included here so that, if the children are looking for their own art work, they
should be able to find it.
The next experience was "Sharing Our Sorrows" -The Crucifixion
The large Cross was displayed with smaller crosses each having a topic for
consideration. The story of the crucifixion was told and the children were asked
to hold onto a ribbon from the large Cross and to think about one of the topics
displayed on the small crosses.
When the groups of children had visited all the stations they congregated at
"The Empty Tomb" where the story of the Resurrection was told and they were
asked to come up with some words which described how the women at the tomb would
have felt. These words were written on a flip chart and can be seen in church.
We are sorry not to have been able to show the children at the event but
the rules for children on the web-site are restrictive and it is better to be
safe than put anyone at risk.
